Q: How come there isn't a set date or location?
A: Due to the nature of the venues Living Traditions Productions is considering to host the Beyond the Pride Exhibition, a specific date and location has not yet been set. We are currently in discussions with multiple venues, many of which do not open their booking schedules until 6 months before the proposed date. For now, the proposed date is set in the Fall of 2009, favoring the month of October (avoiding the Moon Festival/Zhongqiu Jie/Tet Trung Thu and Double Ten celebrations). Various consider-ations must be made for that time since many venues will also be hosting basketball and volleyball games that month as well. LTP will update the website as soon as we secure a venue and date.
Q: How come you guys are not accepting jongs?
A: We see that most performances are not perform on jongs but with props; therefore we feel that to present the traditional aspect of lion dancing, we should present the art at its core: full ground work with prop sets that the lion can perform on/with and a goal at the end for a lion to show expressions and character. The teams may use tables, chairs, benches, pots etc. to tell their stories. Also we would like to see the creativity and give each team a fair audition/exhibition whether they are small or big. We believe that it is incredible to be able to perform on jongs, but most community teams cannot afford jongs.
Q: How will teams from other states get there?
A: Living Traditions Productions would love to invite teams from all over the world to our events. However, since we are in our inaugural year and we are a grass root organization, we cannot provide rides for teams to get to Beyond the Pride Exhibition. One of the goals of LTP is to be able to move BPX around the United States, and even possibly even worldwide and reach out to lion dancers everywhere. Nonetheless, if your team does have the means to travel to the Orange County area this year, we highly encourage you to come join us. Our own experiences with traveling to other states to perform, such as Texas, shows that team retreats can be enjoyable and great for team bonding.
